98: Kerry McDonald on the Advantage of Self Directed Learning

It’s no secret that many people tend to think of education in one-size-fits-all terms. When it comes to educational alternatives, there’s a lot more going on than simply homeschooling. To grasp all the possibilities, we must be able to think outside the box a bit. Kerry McDonald joins us to discuss the advantages of self directed learning and unschooling.

Kerry McDonald has a B.A. in Economics from Bowdoin and an M.Ed. in education policy from Harvard. She lives in Cambridge, Mass. with her husband and four never-been-schooled children. Kerry is the author of the forthcoming book, Unschooled: Raising Curious, Well-Educated Children Outside the Conventional Classroom (Chicago Review Press).
